Our third and final Thanksgiving dinner was at my parents house. Every year, my mom hosts Thanksgiving for her side of the family. She is the baby of nine, so you can imagine she has a packed house every year. We usually have around 50 or 60 people there between my aunts, uncles, cousins, their spoouses or girlfriends, and their kids. This year there was only 40 people, luckily my parents house is a good size so everyone can split up. The guys can be found in front of the TV watching football, the women are in the kitchen or dining room and the kids are usually all outside playing if it's nice our or upstairs if it isn't so nice.
This year was a little more difficult then previous years. It was the first Thanksgiving without my Uncle Orville, who passed away in July on my birthday. It was hard knowing that I wouldn't see him sitting on the couch when I walked through the door or I wouldn't hear his laugh in the dining room while he told a story. Luckily, my Aunt Jeannie, his wife still came and we were happy to see her.
It was also the first year in five years that we had babies present. My cousin, Charlotte's son, Gus had been the baby for years, but now Gracie and Cecilia are here. Gus had so much fun playing with the babies, there is no jealousy there whatsoever (we were scared at first).Thanksgiving at my parent'shouse is very informal, we don't have assigned seating, you more less sit wherever you can find a seat. Everything is buffet style and we eat with plastic forks and plates (the horror), but really who wants to do dishes for that many people? I wouldn't want it any other way.
